Major Horace Carswell
Major Carswell died at age 28 during World War II. His final heroic act earned him a posthumous Medal of Honor. Refusing to abandon his bombardier whose parachute was irreparably damaged, Carswell perished attempting to steer his B-24 bomber to safety after it was crippled by enemy fire.
