Honoring those who have served and sacrificed
Through the unique artistry of beaded tapestries

Here's the subject of my next Thankful Generations beaded tapestry: my husband, Alan, onboard the USCG Barque Eagle in 1977. He definitely did not mind this short term assignment on this historic ship! The Neuren Tapestry is officially underway.

Sailor on USS Mason
This tapestry is of an unknown USS Mason crew member from a National Archives photo. Though individual details about this sailor are not known to the artist, much has been written about the ship, which carried a crew of 150 African American enlisted men and six officers. The USS Mason (DE-529) was part of the Evarts-class destroyer escort for other naval vessels in the Atlantic. A contemporary Arleigh Burke Class destroyer, DDG 87, also carries the name USS Mason carrying the legacy forward ... "Proudly We Serve". The current ship was built at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine and launched on June 23, 2001.
